Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Review

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Having never owned - or even so much as used - a webcam prior to this, I don’t have much point of reference. That said, the installation of this product couldn’t have been any easier. On my older desktop system, the installation only took a few minutes. The laptop I have is much newer, and the software installed even faster. Absolutely trouble-free, and within minutes I had a picture on screen and was able to take photos and make videos. (more…)

Creative Zen Review

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

This is a great choice for those people who previously limited their flash players to workout duty, or only holding a small piece of their large music collection and having to change the music on it every so often. With a 16GB capacity most people can fit their entire collection on here without difficulty, and even have room for some videos. (more…)

Nikon D40 6.1MP Review

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The 6 Megapixel Nikon D40 is targeted for those who want a relatively compact and light camera yet having most of the important SLR features. The D40 is priced reasonably (cheaper than D50/D80 and Canon Rebel XTi). In my opinion, if you are still considering whether to get a point and shoot camera or a DSLR, the D40 will be a better choice than any point and shoot camera, by far, even those with 8MP or 10MP. But if you are already deciding to get a DSLR or you want more control of the picture taking experience, then I would recommend you to also test the D50 and/or D80 first before deciding to buy the D40. I want you to make sure that you know what you will get (and not get) with the D40. Don’t get me wrong though, the D40 is an awesome camera, and I don’t think you will regret buying one. There are some limitation with the D40 which shouldn’t bother most people, for example, the D40 doesn’t have dedicated button to change picture quality, white balance or ISO settings (which generally only professional/enthusiast will care). Once you understand (and accept) its limitation, the D40 is a potent and exciting photography machine. (more…)

M-Audio StudioPro 3 Review

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I’ve been listening to a wide variety of music on these audio monitors for about a week (from rock to classical, studio to live recordings, acoustic to electronica) . I have them placed about 30 inches apart and about 24-36 inches in front of me (depending on how I’m sitting). They are hooked up to my Powerbook using a 3.5mm to RCA cable. (more…)

iPod nano Review

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Apple’s new nano is designed to improve upon past models and add some functionality. The improved video, smaller thinner body and updated firmware are enough to make it stand out. The slightly lower price tag is also sure to help sell more units. (more…)

Nuvi 760 Software Version 2.10 / 2008 maps

This unit is replacing a nuvi 360, which is going to my sister. The nuvi 760 is still a bit hard to find. I found one in stock at a local SoCal retailer on 28-Oct. (more…)

Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 WebCam Review

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Trust me, you don’t want to waste your money on a cheap webcam. The price for this item might seem a little expensive for a webcam, but you get what you pay for: it’s much better quality, design, smooth video, and extra features. (more…)

iPod Shufle Review

The third generation of the iPod Shuffle is similar to the second. It’s a great MP3 player for working out or running, especially if you are a die-hard Apple fan. However, the steep price means you had better review all your options before you choose this. (more…)

M-Audio Fast Track Pro 4×4 Review

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Since I don’t do live music, you will probably look to other reviews from musicians from that standpoint. I am just an audiophile looking for a good external audio card that gets me away from the interference that happens to an audio card insided your PC case. (more…)

EOTech 550 Review

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Before purchasing my first electronic weapon sight I had the great fortune of being able to compare side-by-side the EOTech 550 with an Aimpoint Comp M2 and a Zeiss Z-point. For me EOTech was the hands-down winner. I have a significant astigmatism and both the Aimpoint and Zeiss electronic dots appear more like an indistinct bunch of grapes than a single aiming point. No such problem with the EOTech at all but the highest two or three power settings. (more…)
