The iPod Nano

Posted by: Admin In: iPod

Released earlier this month together with other iPod models, this teeny iPod hold its own. Despite being only 2.75 x 2.06 inches, it can hold up to 1000 or 2000 songs or 3,500 to 7,000 viewable photos or 4 to 8 hours of video, depending on the memory capacity. Its battery lasts for up to 24 hours of audio playback or up to 5 hours of video playback. So, despite being teeny tiny, this little iPod packs a whopper!

Fondly called the “Fatty Nano” because of its squat features; but in reality, this iPod is really tiny. With it’s tapered sides, 0.26 inch thickness it is not only tiny, but lightweight; tipping the scale at only 1.74 ounces. It comes in 5 eye catching colors and sports a new user interface; it is clad in anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel, the iPod Nano has never been more beautiful.

Like the rest of the iPods in the newly released line, this iPod also sports the “Cover Flow” feature, designed to facilitate easy browsing of music files. This feature allows you to look through the album art of your favorite songs; choose one, flip it over, pick a song from the track list, and start playing. Still sporting Apple’s signature “Click Wheel”, looking for your favorite song has never been easier.

Small as it is, this iPod can hold an array of your favorite movies, TV shows and Podcasts. You can head on iTunes store and download up to 5 hours of video for you iPod Nano. With its new 320×240 pixel display, the images have never been brighter.

The iPod Nano also comes with three games — Vortex, formerly Bricks; iQuiz, the old Music Quiz; and Klondike, otherwise known as Klondike. Not satisfied with this collection? Don’t fret, earlier this week Apple has released three new games and are now sold at iTunes. The games are as follows: Ms.Pacman, Tetris, and Sudoku. So, go on ahead, dig in.

Other features available on the iPod Nano:

Photos – take your photos with you wherever you go. The iPod Nano can hold up to 7,000 photos. This iPod allows you to view your photos in a slide show or with a full screen view; so, you are able to relieve your memories wherever, whenever.
Extra Features include: calendars, a contact list, clock, world time, and a stop watch.

There are as with any technology a few flaws we find in this dear “Fatty Nano”. To start off, the proportions are not as comfortable as with the old version, this Nano, definitely won’t fit in the pocket of your skinny jeans. The “Cover Flow” feature can sometimes be slow and cumbersome; and as others say, other than the change in proportions, there has been no huge change as compared to the old Nano. Also, the stainless steel back is easily marked with fingerprints and is not that easy to clean up.

Overall, the iPod Nano is satisfying; with the kind of quality you get from such a small thing. How could you go wrong? The iPod Nano retails for $149 US for the 4G model and $199 for the 8GB model.
